Dola Utsav observed in Australia

Brisbane: The Odia community of Brisbane, part of the National Association of Odias in Australia (Orioz), celebrated Dola Utsav on Sunday 24 March 2019 at Sutton beach, Redcliffe.

Orioz group members took the opportunity to introduce wider Australian and international community and second generation Odias to phagu and Abira Khela.

The event witnessed festive enthusiasm from a sizeable Odia diaspora in Brisbane and the international crowd that joined the celebration by applying abira to each other and afterward enjoying Pana and mouth-watering bhoji.

Manas Ranjan Das and Partha Narayan Mishra of Brisbane organised the 2019 Holi naming it “Ranga Barase”. Manas is a successful Yoga Master Trainer in Brisbane and Partha is a Ph. D scholar at the University of Qld. Sujeet Jena, president of Orioz from Sydney was also present at this event.  He said, “Orioz, since its inception in 2005, has been successful in bringing Odias in Australia together not only to have vibrant Odia communities in each state of Australia but maintaining our Odia tradition and culture to call Australia home far away from home”.
