Dhaka: The Bangladesh govt on Friday imposed a nationwide curfew and deployment of military forces to maintain order after the deadly unrest that has spread across the country.
“The government has decided to impose a curfew and deploy the military in aid of the civilian authorities,” Hasina’s press secretary Nayeemul Islam Khan told AFP.
He added that the curfew would take immediate effect.
The clash between the student demonstrators and police have taken lives of 105 people while atleast 1500 indiviuals have been injured, according to AFP.
The telecommunications in the capital Dhaka were disrupted while the television news channels went off air. All the public gatherings have been banned in the capital city.
The government have also ordered the shutdown mobile internet networks to put an end to the ongoing unrest.
On July 18, the protesters torched, vandalised and carried out “destructive activities” on numerous police and government offices.
Among them was the Dhaka headquarters of state broadcaster Bangladesh Television, which remains offline after hundreds of incensed students stormed the premises and set fire to a building.
On Friday, protesters freed hundreds of inmates from a jail in Narsingdi district in central Bangladesh before setting the prison building on fire.
