Covid-19 not respiratory disease but vascular illness: Study

COVID-19 is a vascular condition rather than a pulmonary illnesss, said a study by the University of California-San Diego. This study could reveal blood clots in some COVID patients as well as other concerns such as COVID feet which are not usual indicators of a respiratory problem.

This research was published in the journal Circulation Research that demonstrated how the virus targets the arterial or circulatory system.

Earlier, majority of Covid infected patients used to believe that having mild to moderate respiratory symptoms will recover without needing any care and professionals. Whereas people over 65 years of age with medical issues such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer, are at higher risk of developing serious symptoms.

Researchers have claimed that coronavirus is not a respiratory illness, as the spike in the S protein in the body directly affects the receptor ACE2, which causes damage to the mitochondria that generate the energy of the cells, further causing damage or breakdown of the endothelium, which is a thin membrane that provides a covering over the heart and blood vessels.

The researchers observed that the COVID-19 virus, which is widely considered a respiratory disease, is actually a vascular disease. The virus, after entering the body, affects the circulatory system.

It is noteworthy of that the early research of the COVID virus revealed that the presence of S protein is replicated by all of the vaccines available now.

The impacts on the respiratory system are caused by inflammation of the lung vascular tissue. This, as per scientists, coult explain why some people suffer from strokes or ailments in other body parts because of COVID-19.
