Canadian feared abducted by Maoists; MEA seeks report

Bhubaneswar, Mar 28: A Canadian national identified as John is feared to have been abducted by Maoists from Chhattisgarh’s Sukma, the bordering district to Malkangiri district of Odisha, on Monday.
According to reports, a group of red rebels are suspected to have abducted the foreign national while he was passing the forest on a bike.
Odisha police along with its Chhattisgarh counterpart has launched massive search operations at different places to trace John, who had come to Chhattisgarh from Mumbai since March 14.
Police said, the travel agency of John is being interrogated.
Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has sought a report from the Odisha government in this regard.
“We are seized of the matter. I have asked for a report from Government of Odisha,” Swaraj posted in twitter account.
She also spoke to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik over the reported abduction. “I have spoken to Shri Naveen Patnaik, Chief Minister reg the reported abduction of a Canadian national in Koraput district of Odisha”, she further added in her tweet account.
