Canada approves Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine for kids aged 5-11 years

Canada health regulator on Friday became the latest country to authorize the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine for children aged between five and 11-years-old.

The health regulator approved Pfizer’s kid-size COVID-19 shot and announced it will allow Canadians returning from short trips abroad to use a quicker, less-expensive test for the coronavirus.

“After a thorough and independent scientific review of the evidence, the department has determined that the benefits of this vaccine for children between five and 11 years of age outweigh the risks,” said an official statement from Health Canada.

The government agency said the vaccine is 90.7% effective in preventing Covid-19 in children and no serious side effects were identified.

Canadians and permanent residents returning from the U.S. or other nations after trips of less than 72 hours no longer need to show a negative PCR test.
