Arif Alvi sworn in as 13th President of Pakistan

Islamabad: Arif Alvi took oath as the 13th President of Pakistan on Sunday. Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar administered the oath to Alvi at a ceremony at Aiwan-i-Sadr here.

Prime Minister Imran Khan, Army Chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, several foreign diplomats and other well-known personalities attended the ceremony.

Alvi, a founding member of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party,won the presidential election last Tuesday by securing 352 votes in the electoral college of National and Provincial Assemblies and the Senate.

His predecessor President Mamnoon Hussain left the President House at completion of his five-year term on Saturday.

69-year-old Alvi was elected to the National Assembly from Karachi’s NA-247 constituency during the July 25 polls.
