Activist and Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai gets hitched

Birmingham: Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai has got married on Tuesday in a small ceremony in Birmingham and announced on social media platform Twitter. The 24-year-old human rights campaigner, originally from Pakistan,was shot by the Taliban for campaigning for girl’s education.

“Today marks a precious day in my life,” Malala wrote. “Asser and I tied the knot to be partners for life. We celebrated a small nikkah ceremony at home in Birmingham with our families. Please send us your prayers. We are excited to walk together for the journey ahead.”

Yousafzai was born in Pakistan. She was shot at by Taliban terrorists in 2012 when she was only 15 for speaking out publicly on behalf of girls and their right to learn.

She recovered after months of treatment and then she was shifted to Birmingham, where she continued her activism for education of the girl child.

With her father’s help, she set up Malala Fund, a charity dedicated to giving every girl an opportunity to achieve a future she chooses.

She was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014, becoming the youngest recipient of the award at the age of 17.
