6.6 Magnitude Earthquake Hits North-West Indonesia

Jakarta: An earthquake with a powerful 6.6 magnitude struck 174 km (108 miles) north-northwest of Ternate city in Indonesia’s Molucca islands on Sunday. This has been confirmed by the U.S. Geological Survey.

According to the US agency, the quake hit at a depth of 60.5 km.

A previous report from the USGS gave the magnitude of the quake at 7.0 and the depth at 10 km.

In an official statement based on available data, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said there was no current tsunami threat from the event.
