5 Tourists from India Among Several Killed in Fatal Bus Accident in Kenya
The bus was carrying a group of tourists from Qatar who were in Kenya to celebrate the Bakrid festival when it met with an accident
Nairobi: At least five Indian nationals lost their lives in a bus crash in Kenya on June 9. The accident occurred near Nyasaru, about 150 kilometers from Nairobi, at 7 PM IST. The bus, carrying 28 Indian tourists who had travelled from Qatar, was involved in the mishap during a tour of the region.
According to reports, the tourists were en route to Panari Resort, Nyahururu, when their bus plunged into a ditch shortly after it started raining. The driver reportedly lost control while navigating a sharp bend on a steep stretch. There were 28 tourists, three local guides, and the driver on board. Five died while many other passengers were injured in the crash, with emergency response teams rushing to the site.
Kerala Sabha and Norca Roots have been actively aiding the victims, while G.P. Rajamohan, Sajith Shankar, along with Kenya Kerala Association members quickly reached the site to assist with relief efforts.
The injured are being treated at Nyasaru, and plans are underway to transfer them to Nairobi for further care. Both road and air ambulances are being utilized to ensure quick medical attention.
Authorities confirmed that the bodies of the deceased will be swiftly sent to Nairobi. Meanwhile, local Malayali associations are working together to provide support to the families of the victims.
Post mortem examination is completed and bodies are to be repatriated soon.
