31 workers have been safely rescued after part of an industrial tunnel under construction collapsed on Wednesday in Wilmington, Los Angeles as per reports.

The tunnel, which is being built to carry wastewater in the future, is 18 feet wide.

According to the report, the incident happened deep inside the tunnel, about 8 to 9.7 kilometers from the only entrance.

After the collapse, the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) reportedly sent more than 100 firefighters and rescue personnel to the scene, including team who specialize in rescuing people from confined spaces like tunnels.

The workers were carefully brought out one by one to make sure everyone got out safely. Additionally, paramedics were on-site to check the condition of the workers.

Out of 31 rescued, 27 were reportedly evaluated by medical teams to make sure they were not hurt or suffering from any health problem caused by the collapsed.

Officials have not reported any deaths and the cause of the collapse is still being looked into.
