25 Dead As Army Helicopter Crashes In Afghanistan

Kabul: 25 persons, including senior officials, were killed when an army helicopter crashed in Afghanistan’s Farah province on Wednesday. The helicopter, which was on its way to Herat, had 25 members onboard all of whom have been killed.

According to a report by Al Jazera, among the dead were the deputy army corps commander for western Afghanistan and head of the Farah provincial council.

While the authorities have claimed that the crash occurred due to inclement weather, Taliban has claimed credit for the attack and stated that its fighters have shot down the helicopter.

Naser Mehri, a spokesman for the governor of western Farah province said two army helicopters were on their way to neighbouring Herat province when one lost control.

Meanwhile, an Afghan provincial council member has said the crash occurred when the helicopter hit a mountain peak due to bad weather while flying to Herat.
