At least 16 people died after a violent clash broke out between two tribes over a coal mine in Pakistan's Kohat on Monday.

Pakistan: At least 16 people were killed after a violent clash broke out between two tribes on Monday over a coal mine dispute in Darra Adamkhel Kohat, ARY news reported.

The clash broke out between the Sunnykhel and Zarghun Khel tribes in the Darra Adam Khek area in Kohat district over the delimitation of the mine, they added.

According to the Kohat Police spokesperson, the dispute between the two tribes, both of whom are part of the hill community of Bulandari, turned violent when they faced each other in the mountain range.

The police reached the spot and took the situation under their control. They said it was a long-standing dispute between the two tribes, and security forces reached the spot.

The bodies and the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital in Peshawar, where two more people also succumbed to injuries.

An FIR has been registered at the Darra Adam Khel police station.

Since the last couple of years, the dispute between the Sunnykhel and Zarghun Khel tribes over the delimitation of coal mines has raged, and many reconciliations have been held in a bid to end the deadlock.

However, due to the stubborn nature of the local people on both sides, a tragic incident occurred, and both sides suffered heavy casualties.
