14 dead over 300 injured in walkie blast in Lebanon

Beirut: In a shocking synchronized walkie blast in Lebanon, as many as 14 people have been killed and 300 have been critically injured. The explosions took place in three parts of the city.

According to reports, how many devices blew up is yet to be ascertained. There have been reports of landline telephones exploding too.

The minister in a televised press conference on the walkie blasts in Lebanon said it, “killed twelve people, including a girl”, adding that “About 2,800 people were injured and more than 200 of them critically”. The injuries were mostly on the face, hands and stomach, he had said. Later however 14 people are said to have died.

According to reports on Tuesday, 2,600 people had been injured in the explosion of pagers. The state media of Iran reported that its Ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani, had also been wounded in the incident.

The explosions took place at around 6 pm IST. The blasts occurred in several areas with strong Hezbollah presence, such as Beirut’s Dahieh suburb, southern Lebanon, and the Beqaa Valley.
