Rising Temperature and Pregnancy: Smart ways to stay safe and hydrated during heat wave
Many places face extreme weather conditions during summers. It is important to stay safe and hydrated during hot summers. And especially, pregnant women must take care of themselves during the heat wave.
During summers, temperature rises and even the body struggles to regulate heat. This makes it even more difficult for expecting woman.
Dehydration, heat exhaustion and other heat-related complication becomes common problems for them. It is important to take extra precautions during the hot weather.
Here are some tips to remain hydrated and safe during heat wave:
Stay Hydrated
Always drink plenty of water even if you aren’t thirsty. Add electrolyte – rich fluids in your daily diet. Drink ORS solutions if you are sweating excessively.
Don’t go out between 11 AM – 4 PM
11 AM – 4 PM is usually the hottest hours of the day. Temperature is at peak during these hours. It will be best not to step out from the house. If you must, wear a wide-brimmed hat, loose clothing and use sunscreen.
Stay in cool environment
Stay under fans and AC as much as possible. If there is no AC, use fans, take cold showers and put wet towels on your neck and wrists to reduce the body temperature.
Wear loose cotton clothes
When going out during summers, choose light-colored, loose-fitting and breathable fabrics like cotton. It helps in absorbing sweat and keeps you comfortable.
