The festival of colours is around the corner, and we couldn't be more excited. But while it used to be all about natural gulal and water splashes. This year, the festival will be celebrated on March 25. While you are all geared up to celebrate the day with the utmost zeal and enthusiasm, it's crucial to protect your skin, hair and nails during the festivities. Here are tips to before and after playing Holi.
Prioritize moisturizing your skin at least a day before Holi. Dry skin is more susceptible to absorbing harmful substances, so a hydrating routine helps fortify your skin's barrier. Additionally, oiling your hair and applying nail varnish in the morning provides a protective shield against colour damage.
Consuming lots of water before Holi keeps your skin hydrated inside as well; hence, it becomes less dry and irritated due to the colors.
Wearing long-sleeved clothing can protect your arms and legs from skin damage and excessive exposure to colors. Choose cotton fabrics to allow your skin to breathe.
Apply a water-resistant sunscreen before stepping out. It will help shield your damp skin from sun damage and tanning caused by prolonged sun exposure during Holi celebrations.
To prevent colours from setting in your nails, cut them short and put a dark-coloured nail polish on. This forms a seal and avoids stubborn stains.
After the fun, treat your skin gently. Scrubbing too hard can harm your skin's sensitive outer layers, so refrain from doing so. Use a mild cleanser or a homemade paste of gram flour (besan) and milk to wash your skin gently.
Use lukewarm or cold water while taking a bath. Hot water removes natural oils and makes skin and hair drier.
If you find any irritation, using fresh aloe vera gel will soothe the skin and minimise inflammation.
After rinsing away the colours, use a thick moisturiser or coconut oil mixed with almond oil to restore lost moisture and make your skin smooth.
Let your skin heal by not applying makeup for a minimum of 24 to 48 hours post Holi. This will help your skin breathe and heal on its own.
