Dahibara Aloodum Dibasa Today: Every Odia’s emotion glued with legendary snack

Today that is on March 1 the state of Odisha celebrates Dahibara divas. The foodies and people who love street food can never have enough of this delightful snack. Dahibara aloodum and ghuguni is a type of snack that can be taken as a quick meal.

People who don’t have enough time to sit at a restaurant and consume a meal, can get the same kind of satisfaction for their tastebuds as well as energy by having a plate of Dahibara aloodum.

Aloodum Dahibara is a type of food that can be eaten as a quick snack. Dahibara aloodum is prepared by soaking fried flour balls in yogurt diluted with water. Then, the preparation is tempered with mustard seeds and curry leaves.

It is served along with Aloodum, spicy potato curry, Ghuguni (pea curry) garnished with finely chopped onions. There are many health benefits of Dahibara aloodum for which it has earned such popularity. Dahibara is easy to digest as it is made up by using fermentation method.

It is rich in carbohydrates, protein, fibre and probiotics. The curd, which is served along with this dish provides probiotics which are essential for gut health. Further, it is rich in proteins and calcium as well.

Last year in July Sofia Firdous the newly elected Congress MLA of Barabati- Cuttack, raised a question in the Odisha Assembly on allotting a  GI (Geographical Indication) tag to the famous aloodum dahibara of the silver city of Cuttack.

She had said in her speech in the Assembly that Aloodum Dahibara is a very famous delicacy of Cuttack. The taste of this dish is neither unknown or unheard off. She had demanded back then that the famous food of the silver city should be accorded a GI tag and that the government should take concrete steps in this regard.

She has further expressed her satisfaction about the action undertaken by the Government of Odisha for the GI certification. Odisha celebrates Dahibara aloodum divas on March 1. She had further said that Dahibara aloodum is now a pan-India cuisine.

Especially after it was awarded at the National Street Food Festival in 2020, now foodies across the country know what Dahibara aloodum of Odisha is and make videos of eating it quite frequently.
