Avocadoes The otherwise healthy avocado is an enemy for you, if you have some kind of renal disease. Avocadoes are rich in Potassium and a middle sized avocado contains 690 mg of potassium. However, eating one-fourth of avocado won’t do you any harm.

Dairy products These are also high in protein and are naturally rich in Phosphorus and potassium. 1 cup (240 ml) of whole milk provides 205 mg of phosphorus and 322 mg of potassium. Milk on the other hand is often recommended for stronger bones and muscle health. But this can have an adverse impact on kidney as phosphorus builds up in the blood, pulling calcium from bones.

Oranges They are rich in vitamin C but also contain high levels of potassium. The excess intake of potassium in the body can have a negative effect on the kidney.

Processed meats They are a major cause of chronic disease as they contain preservatives. They are salted, dried, cured or canned. They include hot dogs, bacon, pepperoni, jerky and sausage. They are also rich sources of protein.

Tomatoes High in potassium, 1 cup (245 g) of tomato sauce contains 728 mg of potassium which is not recommended for someone suffering from a renal disease. Tomatoes need to consumed in measured quantities and an overdose may elevate the renal risk.

Refined sugar Sugar is as such a big nay nay for even general people. Individuals suffering from renal failures should precisely avoid refined sugar as this increases the calcium in the urine which may lead to kidney stones.

Brown rice Brown rice is a whole grain just like whole wheat bread and is a rich source of potassium and phosphorus. 1 cup of cooked brown rice of 155 g contains 149 mg of phosphorus and 95 mg of potassium. Bulgar, buckwheat, pearled barley and couscous are nutritious and contain lower quantities of phosphorus grains and are a good substitute of brown rice.

Bananas This fruit is a rich source of potassium but are low in sodium content. Many other tropical fruits are also rich in potassium. However, pineapples are a good alternative for bananas because of their low potassium content.
