Rayagada: The Rayagada District and Sessions Judge Court on Thursday sentenced dreaded Maoist Gembali Chinarao alias Santu to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) in two different cases.
Apart from the RI, the court slapped a penalty of Rs 50,000 on him. In case he fails to pay the fine, the red rebel will have to spend six months more in jail, the court ruled.
The court’s verdict came after the examination of seven witnesses.
Santu was arrested by the Rayagada police from Phulkana forest during a raid on May 7, 2013. Two kgs of ammonium nitrate, a 9 mm pistol, 9 detonators, five gelatine sticks and other materials were seized from his possession.
He has several cases against him in Andhra Pradesh and is a wanted Maoist by the police there. The Andhra Pradesh government had also declared a reward of Rs 4 lakh on his head.
