Diarrhoea death toll in Alasu in Ganjam District rises to 4

The death toll due to diarrhoea at Alasu of Bhanjanagar in Ganjam district rose to four on Sunday with the death of two more people. The deceased have been identified as Rita Nayak, Bhasimuli Nayak, Draiver Nayak and Besamar Nayak.

According to reports, at least two persons had died and 50 others were affected by diarrhoea after drinking Pana during a Danda Jatra in Alasu village.

Sources said, the people were affected by diarrhoea as the Pana was prepared with the contaminated water from a pond.

Meanwhile, Forests and Environment Minister Bikram Keshari Arukh along with the CDMO visited the hospital and met the affected people. The district police has started an investigation into the incident.
