5th, 8th class students to write ICSE board exams from 2018

testKolkata/Bhubaneswar: Class 5 and 8 students will have to write the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) board examinations from the academic year 2018.

Till now, the board exams of ICSE were being conducted only for the Class 10 students. But Class 5 and 8 students will also have to appear in the test from 2018 onwards. However, there will be no pass-fail tags, ICSE CEO Gerry Arathoon said in Kolkata on Wednesday.

While the question papers for both classes will be prepared by the board,  the answer papers of the students of one school will be evaluated by teachers of another school, he said.

The board has also decided to introduce three compulsory subjects: Sanskrit, yoga and performing arts.

Sanskrit will be taught to students from Class 5 to 8 whereas the other two subjects will be taught to all students between classes 1 and 8, Arathoon said.
