WhatsApp to soon stop support for these devices

New Delhi: Popular messaging app WhatsApp has announced that it will be ending its support for older versions of Windows, iOS and Android phones.

WhatsApp says support will end on Dec 31, after which Windows Phone users will no longer be able to create new accounts, nor reverify existing accounts.

It adds that while users with active accounts can continue using it, some features might stop functioning at any time.

Owners of older Android and iOS phones should also take note that WhatsApp is ending support for older OS on those platforms too.

On Feb 1, 2020, WhatsApp will cease support for Android versions 2.3.7 and older, and iOS 7 and older.

For reference, the latest OS for these phones is Android 9 and iOS 12.
