WhatsApp feature update: Group admins will soon be able to delete chats for everyone in a group

WhatsApp has always introduced new features to enhance the user experience. Now, the messaging app is rumoured to roll out a new feature that will provide admins with more power over groups.

The new feature will reportedly allow group admins to delete messages for everyone. The group admins will have the ability to delete messages sent by group members that are not in sync with the group’s ideology. They can delete it before everyone sees it.

According to Wabetainfo, the ability to delete messages in a group will soon be available to Android users on WhatsApp.

The WhatsApp feature tracker shared a post on Twitter that says, “If you are a group admin, you will be able to delete any message for everyone in your groups, in a future update of WhatsApp beta for Android.”

Wabetainfo has also shared a screen shot of the feature, which shows that when a group admin deletes a message, a note saying “This was deleted by an admin” will be displayed. With this note, the group members can know which admin deleted the message.

After the feature is lauched, the group admins can delete obscene or objectionable messages easily. It would also help admins in removing messages that go against the interests of the group.

WhatsApp was reportedly working on the possibility of extending the time limit of the ‘Delete Message for Everyone’ feature. The app currently allows users to delete the message once sent after one hour, eight minutes, and sixteen seconds. With the new feature, users will get the option of deleting messages for everyone seven days after sending them.

According to reports, WhatsApp is planning to change the time limit to 7 days and 8 minutes in a future update. Previously, it was also being speculated that WhatsApp would remove the time limit and allow users to delete messages for everyone, even after hours, days, years of sending them. But now WhatsApp is planning to modify the current time limit in the future.
