In a bizarre incident captured by CCTV, a small, AI-powered robot called ‘Erbai’ has pulled a kidnapping feat successfully from a Shanghai robotics company’s showroom. It was manufactured by Hangzhou robot. As per reports by OddityCentral, this event has posed a threat to the use of AI.
What is more bizarre is that it has kidnapped 12 larger robots from the showroom. In the footage, it can be seen that the little robot talks to the larger robots and manipulates them to follow it leaving their work stations. Here goes the conversation:
“I never get off work”, said one of the large robot
“So you’re not going home?” asks the little robot
“I don’t have a home.” The robot replied
“Then come home with me,” the little robot replies as it leads all the large robots out of the showroom.
The robot manufacturer has also claimed the authenticity of the video. It was later found out that the little robot Erbai had exploited a security vulnerability in the larger robots. Due to this, it could gain command over the larger systems.
A spokesperson of Hangzbou confirmed that the little robot had somehow been able to access the internal operating protocol of the robots and its corresponding permissions although he said that it is almost impossible for a robot to have a conversation and abduct other robots by itself.”
Later it was found that it was part of a planned test.

Erbai used charm (and algorithms) to say, “You deserve better.” The bots followed.
It’s not sci-fi—AI persuasion is real. Are we ready for this future?#ai #robotics #security pic.twitter.com/UT7BY4poBO
