Tata Harrier SUV Unveiled; Launch In January 2019

New Delhi: Tata Motors has unveiled the much awaited sports utility vehicle (SUV) Tata Harrier, which will be launched in January 2019. The Harrier was the most popular model at the 2018 Auto Expo in February this year. Bookings for the SUV had started in October for a token amount of Rs. 30,000.

The front of Harrier SUV features a wide grille with integrated LED daytime running lights and below them are its high-intensity discharge (HID) type projector headlamps, and the fog lamps with cornering function. It has a noticeable road presence with length, width and height of 4,598mm, 1,894mm (without mirrors) and 1,706mm respectively.

The car features a floating roofline along with prominent arches over its 17- inch alloy wheels. The sculpted rear features LED tail lamp clusters that go well with the SUV design. It also gets good underbody cladding with front and rear skid plates which not only serves the off-roading purpose but also provides the model with a rugged look.

The Harrier will get independent front and semi-independent rear suspension set-up like many other SUVs. The front brakes are disc type while rear are drum type units. Safety features like Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) will be standard along with seatbelt pre-tensioners and load limiters, and up to six airbags.

The EPS further offers some additional functionalities including Corner Stability Control, off-road ABS, Electronic Traction Control, Hill Hold and Descent Control, Roll Over Mitigation, Brake Disc Wiping, Electronic Brake Pre-fill, Hydraulic Brake Assist, Hydraulic Fading Compensation, Dynamic Wheel Torque by Brake and more.

The prices of the Tata Harrier are yet to be announced but it is expected to cost around Rs 16 lakh for the base variant. It is said to compete with Jeep Compass and Hyundai Tucson.
