Shocking! Mumbai woman duped of Rs 11 lakh while ordering pizza; Know how this happened

Are you thinking of ordering a pizza?. Then beware, you may lose all your money to fraudster like this this woman who lost all her savings while ordering Pizza and dry fruits online. A senior citizen woman from Mumbai’s Andheri, was allegedly duped of over Rs 11 lakh by cyber fraudsters while  she was trying to recover the money she had lost while ordering pizza and dry fruits online.

This incident came to be known on Saturday after the woman filed a complaint at BKC Cyber police station on January 15, 2022.

The officials have filed an FIR under section 420 (cheating) and other relevant provisions of the IPC and Information Technology Act against unidentified persons based on the complaint.

As per the complaint, the woman is a resident of suburban Andheri. She had reportedly ordered pizza online in July last year, and lost Rs 9,999 while paying for it on her phone.

In another similar incident on October 29, she placed online order for some dry fruits, and lost Rs 1,496.

In order to get back the lost money, she dialed a phone number that she found on Google during her search.

The fraudster who answered her call assured her of recovery and told her to download an application on her mobile phone, which gave him access to her device, the official said.

With the application, the fraudster got access of the complainant’s device, her bank account details and passwords.

The fraudster then transferred and withdrew Rs 11.78 lakh from the woman’s bank account between November 14 and December 1, 2021.

As the woman lost all her saving, she soon realised that she had fallen into a scam, following which she approached the police.

According to an official, a probe is underway to track the fraudsters who duped her on all the three occasions.
