The telecom operator has cautioned its subscribers against rising incidents of cyber scams/frauds. Reliance Jio has also revealed the way and method in which the fraudsters are using to scam innocent people.

Inaddition to Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea have also released similar warnings about e-KYC frauds for their customers earlier this year. The company has warned its customers about 6 important things that they should not to do and why they are dangerous.

Jio has warned its subscribers that they should not respond to fraudulent messages asking them to call any number for verification.

2. Don’t give your Aadhaar number, OTP or bank account number with anyone claiming to be Jio representative

According to the company, many fraud cases have revealed that impostors are reportedly posing as Jio representatives to do scam people in the recent days. And these impostors ask for the subscribers information related to their Aadhaar, bank accounts, OTP etc mainly while pretending to get pending eKYC (Know Your Customer).

3. Don’t believe callers that your connection will be cut

If you receive a call/SMS that asks you to complete e-KYC else your mobile services will be discontinued, then do not respond/believe these type of claims they are not true.

4. Don’t call back on numbers given in SMSes to get e-KYC done

Customers should never call back on numbers given in such fraudulent e-KYC SMSes. These type of calls generally asks subscribers about their personal data and asks then to install a third-party app which allows impostors to take remote access to customer’s phone and the bank accounts associated with the device.

The letter of Jio says, “Usually a call back number is also mentioned to share the details. When the customer calls on the given number, he/she is asked to install a third-party app which allows imposters to take remote access to customer’s phone and the bank accounts associated with the device.”

5. Don’t click on any link received in messages that the caller claiming to be Jio representative sends

Jio has also cautioned its customers that they should not click on links, attachments send by impostors pretending to be Jio representatives. Jio has advised them against responding to such unsolicited communications.

6. Never download any app on your phone for KYC update or any other kind of verification

Jio customers should not download any app to update their KYC/Aadhaar details as the company never asks its subscribers to download any third-party app for such activities. Customers should stay alert from such messages and calls. This type of messages or calls generally causes customers to suffer financial loss.

“Please stay alert from such SMS/calls as this may result in financial loss. Do not download remote access apps, as fraudsters will get access to all your phone’s information,” says the letter.

Note that Jio will never ask its subscribers to download and install any third party apps as all relevant information can be found in the MyJio app.
