PhonePe users have to pay transaction fees on mobile recharge, check the details here

Indian digital payments and financial services company, PhonePe will now be charging its customers for recharging any telecom plans. This recent development will impact the users who recharge a prepaid/ postpaid plan on the platform. Hence, the total fees to be paid for a transaction will be more by just by a couple of bucks.

According to the company, users will be charged with a transaction fee (or convenience fee) if they are recharging a plan above Rs 50. This means that plans which are lower than Rs 50 will not be charge anything extra. Similarly plans above Rs 50 and under Rs 100 will be charged with a convenience fee of Re 1. The users who are recharging above Rs 100 will be charged with Rs 2 convenience fee.

The transaction which is made through credit cards will also be liable for a transaction fee, informed PhonePe. If you are a person who frequently uses PhonePe for recharging your plans and is unwilling to pay the extra convenience fee, you can opt for other apps. The prime alternative to PhonePe is Google Pay or Paytm. It is easily assumable that both Google Pay and Paytm are as efficient as PhonePe.

However, the most efficient application for recharging your mobile number is the default application (e.g. My Jio or Airtel Thanks). These applications do not charge users with any convenience fee for recharging and rather provide some bonus offers. Hence, users are advised to use their default telecom application for recharging their number.
