Motorola Edge 50 vs Nothing Phone (2a) Plus: Which mid-range device should you prefer

Motorola and Nothing launched their latest mid-range smartphone in this week and they are Motorola Edge 50 and Nothing Phone (2a) Plus respectively. Both devices cater to the needs of those who are planning to get a mid-range device that is available under Rs 30,000 in the Indian market. Edge 50 as well as Phone (2a) Plus have their own set of niche features that will attract customers.

We have compared both devices to show what they offer in their specifications.

Design and Display

Motorola Edge 50 offers a premium and tough feel. The device has MIL-STD 810H military-grade certification and IP68 rating. On the other hand, the Nothing Phone (2a) Plus offers its unique design with Glyph LED lights at the back. It does get an IP54 protection. The Edge 50 is superior when it comes to built quality and water protection rating. However, if you want to stand out in the crowd, you can prefer the Phone (2a) Plus.

Even though both smartphones offer the same-sized display (6.67 inches) and refresh rate of 120Hz, the Edge 50 is better with its curved display for watching videos or scrolling online content. However, if you are into gaming, the Phone (2a) Plus can be more handy.

Processor

Motorola Edge 50 is powered by Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 Accelerated Edition which has a 2.5 GHz Cortex-A710 core. The RAM+ Storage combination offered in the device is just one (8GB RAM + 256GB storage).

The Nothing Phone (2a) Plus gets more improved chipset as compared to the Phone (2a). The device gets a MediaTek Dimensity 7350 Pro SoC which is an octa-core processor that offers 2x Cortex-A715 cores clocked at 3.0 GHz and 6x Cortex-A510 units @ 2.0 GHz. The device gets up to 12GB RAM. Storage of 256GB is the same across variants.  Processor-wise the Phone (2a) is expected to have an edge over the Edge 50.

Camera

In the rear camera department, Motorola Edge 50 offers a 50MP primary camera that is equipped with a Sony LYT-700C sensor along with a 10MP telephoto lens (3x optical zoom) and a 13MP ultrawide shooter. All three cameras are placed on a rectangular camera bump on the back panel.

The Nothing Phone (2a) Plus offers a 50MP front camera against Edge 50’s 32MP front sensor. The rear cameras on the device include a 50MP primary and a 50MP ultrawide camera.

Battery and OS

Both the devices offer clean OS which have the least bloatware in them. The Nothing Phone (2a) Plus offers a Nothing OS 2.6 that is based on Android 14. On the other hand, the Motorola Edge 50 offers Hello UI, and Android 14.

On the battery front, both devices get a massive 5000mAh unit. However, Phone (2a) Plus supports 50W wired charging support as compared to 65W wired charging support on the Motorola Edge 50.

Price

The Nothing Phone (2a) Plus costs Rs 29,999 for the top 12GB + 256GB variant. Well, Phone (2a) Plus’s base variant and Moto Edge 50’s only variant i.e. 8GB + 256GB variant cost the same. Both devices cost Rs 27,999.
