The Government of India will ban 54 Chinese apps that pose a threat to India’s security, reported news agency ANI quoting sources. However, there is no official list of the 54 banned apps yet.

ANI tweeted some of the names of the apps that are going to be banned in India. As per the tweet, the 54 Chinese apps include Beauty Camera: Sweet Selfie HD, Beauty Camera – Selfie Camera, Equalizer & Bass Booster, CamCard for SalesForce Ent, Isoland 2: Ashes of Time Lite, Viva Video Editor, Tencent Xriver, Onmyoji Chess, Onmyoji Arena, AppLock, Dual Space Lite.

Last year, India banned over hundreds of Chinese apps including popular gaming app PUBG Mobile and the widely-used social media platforms such as TikTok, Weibo, WeChat. India also banned the popular online shopping site AliExpress.

In November 2020, the Centre issued an order under section 69A of the IT Act blocking access to 43 mobile apps. Adding to the list of banned app, the govt also banned 59 more mobile apps on 29th June 2020 and on 2nd September 118 more apps were blocked under section 69A of the IT Act.

As per reports, these apps were said to be engaged in activities that are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of the state and public order.

The govt took this action following the deadly clash between the Indian soldiers and Chinese soldiers, in which 20 Indian soldiers and an unspecified number of Chinese soldiers were killed during the violent clashes in Galwan Valley in Eastern Ladakh.
