Honor Magic V foldable phone with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset launched; Check price, specs

Beijing: Smartphone brand Honor, a former Huawei sub-brand, on Monday announced its first foldable smartphone called the Honor Magic V in China. The Magic V runs Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 paired with 12GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage.

Honor Magic V price starts at 9,999 Yuan (around $1,569) for the 256GB storage model and and goes up to CNY 10,999 ($1,725) for the 512GB storage option. It is available in three colours– orange, silver and black. Honor Magic V will go on open sale in China on January 18.

Honor Magic V Specifications

The Magic V runs Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, paired with 12GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage. The device features a large 7.9-inch internal folding screen with a resolution of 2272 x 1984 and a refresh rate of 90Hz, which is slightly bigger than Samsung’s Z Fold 3.

The main screen can close completely flat for added protection. The main screen has a aspect ratio of 10.3:9 which divides into two areas of close to 21:9 aspect using two apps side by side. It also has HDR10+ support and 10bit colors as well as 800nits peak brightness. The device also has a 6.45-inch cover screen with 120Hz refresh rate and a 2560 x 1080px resolution (21:9 aspect).

The external screen is slightly larger than the Z Fold 3. Magic V is also the first foldable to boast IMAX Enhanced certification. The device runs Honor’s Magic UI 6.0 software on top of Android 12.

When folded, the Magic V measures 72.7mm wide, 14.3mm thick, and has a height of 160.4mm and when unfolded, the device expands to 141.1mm wide and is 6.7mm thick.

The Honor foldable phone sports three 50MP sensors on the rear. It has a pair of 42-MP selfie cameras in punch hole cutouts on the cover screen and on the main screen.

Honor Magic V has 12GB RAM as standard on all versions of the Magic V while the on-board storage is between 256GB and 512GB.

The device packs a 4,750mAh battery that can be charged at up to 66W wired charging. The company has claimed that the phone can be charged 50 per cent charge in 15 minutes.
