Facing storage issues! Here’s how you can clear iPhone’s storage to save extra space

Many Apple iPhone users face storage problems around the world. Though, the iPhone comes with a high storage capacity, there are many factors due to which it gets full in a short period of time.

Many iPhone users get frustrated as they fail to run many apps and function things as the storage is full and ‘Storage Almost Full’ alert pops up every now and then.

Users commonly delete apps, videos, pictures or music files to free up space in their iPhone. But, there is another category of storage on your phone called ‘System Data’ that also has hand in making your storage full.

What is iPhone ‘System Data’ storage?

‘System Data’ storage is usually local data that individuals need to complete their specific tasks. You can find it in the home file system that is specifically for user data. System Data storage, is also known as ‘others’ for older iPhone versions.

How to Clear iPhone storage space?

How to see how much space ‘System Data’ has used on your iPhone?

  • Open your iPhone.
  • Go to the Settings app.
  • Tap on General.
  • Then tap on iPhone Storage option.
  • There, you will see a graph at the top of the screen which will show how much space you have used and free space left on your phone.

Follow the steps to clear ‘System Data’ on iPhone

First you need to clear Safari cache. To clear the Safari cache, follow the steps below.

  • Got to the Setting of the iPhone.
  • Tap ‘Safari’.
  • Scroll down and tap clear history and website data.
  • Confirm to clear history in the popup window.

Auto-delete messages

You can free up space by deleting unnecessary messages or old messages.

  • Open the ‘Settings’ then tap on messages.
  • Go to the message history option.
  • Tap on keep messages option.
  • Select a time period to keep messages.

Offload apps

You can free upa considerable amount of storage by deleting apps that are not necessary or apps that comes in handy very rarely. For these types of apps, you can just  offload these apps. Note that when you offload an app, the app itself is deleted, freeing up space, but the app’s data is saved. So, you don’t need to download it again to install the app. You can just reinstall the app as the data is still there and you can continue as if the app was there all along.

Deleting app cache from social media

You should also delete cache in form of photos, audio and videos by social media apps to free a large amount of space. These caches were generally crated so that the images and video would not buffer while playback or opening.

However, there is no automatic way to clear the cache of these apps, but a user can do it manually.

  • Start the ‘Setting’ app.
  • Tap on ‘General’.
  • Tap iPhone storage.
