California:  Recently, an app called DeepNude has been developed with artificial intelligence technology which can create realistic nude pictures of women, even if they are completely dressed.

DeepNude is the result of the DeepFake technique. DeepFake is a technique for human image synthesis based on artificial intelligence.

The AI-Powered tool can generate nude pictures of fully clothed women which can eventually lead to hideous online harassment cases. The software is available to download on Windows and Linux. It has a free and a premium version to download, which costs 99 USD, reported The Verge.

In both the free and premium versions of the software, however, the pictures are watermarked ‘Fake’. The free version will have a larger watermark whereas the paid version will have a rather small watermark in the corner of the picture. However, it is very easy to remove the watermark which makes it very difficult to prove the authenticity of the photo.

The software works best with high-resolution images especially when the target is already wearing revealing clothes.

However, the software caught attention and created some controversies. Hence, in less than a day of receiving such attention, the app is being shut down. In a tweet, the team behind DeepNude said they “greatly underestimated” interest in the project and that “the probability that people will misuse it is too high”, reported The Verge.

DeepNude’s team ends their message announcing the shutdown by saying “the world is not yet ready for DeepNude.”
