Meta-owned WhatsApp has the highest user base in India and Indians reportedly use the instant-messaging app more than SMS for chatting. it recently banned over 20 lakh accounts in India in the month of October 2021. Earlier, WhatsApp also announced that it banned over 30.27 lakh Indian accounts for violating its terms of service.
WhatsApp recently released the monthly reports on what action it takes in response to grievances received from WhatsApp users in India as per the instruction of the new IT rules in India-Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.
WhatsApp has taken several major steps to stop the spread of misinformation and fake news in India. The app lets users report issues and also taking measures to alert people about possible fake news and forwarded spam messages.
WhatsApp said that it will ban accounts of any user who are violating its Terms of Service on its official website.
According to the meta-owned app, if a users does these 8 things then the app may ban their account. In severe cases, WhatsApp may even provide user’s meta data to the police for legal action including arrests.
1. Impersonating someone and creating a fake account of another person
Your account may get banned, if the app finds that you have created an account for someone else and impersonated someone.
2. Send too many messages to an person who is not in your contact list
WhatsApp may ban your account if you send illegal or impermissible communications such as bulk messaging, auto-messaging, auto-dialing, and the like to a person who is not in your contact list.
3. Use of third-party apps like WhatsApp Delta, GBWhatsApp, WhatsApp Plus, etc
If you are using third party WhatsApp apps like WhatsApp Delta, GBWhatsApp, WhatsApp Plus, etc then delete them immediately as this may lead to your account being banned forever as WhatsApp doesn’t permit users to communicate over such apps due to privacy concerns. So, always use the official WhatsApp app to chat.
4. If you get blocked by too many users then WhatsApp may ban you
WhatsApp will block your account if a lot of users block you on the app even if these people are on your contact list. If too many people block you on the app, then WhatsApp may consider your account as a source of spam messages or fake news.
5. If too many people report against your WhatsApp account then WhatsApp may ban you
Your WhatsApp account may get banned if a lot of people report your account or many people complaints against your account.
6. If you send malware or phishing links to users
If you send malware in the form of APK files on Android phones or forward dangerous phishing links to users then WhatsApp may ban your account.
7. Sending porn clips, threat or defamatory messages on WhatsApp will lead to account ban
Your account will get banned on WhatsApp if you send illegal, obscene, defamatory, threatening, intimidating, harassing, hateful messages to other users. WhatsApp has also banned the sharing of porn clips on its platform.
8. Don’t send fake messages or videos that promote violence on WhatsApp
If you are promoting violent crimes, endangering or exploiting children or others, or coordinating harm or harass people through WhatsApp then your account will be banned.
