Apple is likely to bring a 200MP camera to future iPhones
Currently, iPhones have 48MP cameras. The first iPhone with a 200 MP camera is not likely to be launched before 2028.
Apple is likely to bring a change in future iPhone camera hardware, which is expected to be a 200-megapixel camera sensor. The expected 200 camera lens is currently under development.
The first iPhone with 200 Megapixel cameras is likely to be launched in the year 2028, as it is currently in wor,k and the lineup is expected to be the iPhone 21.
Though, camera upgrades have always played a central role in Apple’s yearly iPhone releases, the company has focused more on software processing and gradual sensor updates rather than jumping to hardware. However, with this announcement, it can be clearly seen that they have changed their approach. A shift to a 200MP sensor would signal a clear change in that approach.
However, the report notes that Apple does not plan to roll out this sensor before 2028. This means iPhones expected in 2026 and 2027 will likely continue using the current camera setup for the upcoming iPhone 18 till 2027.
At present, Apple is offering 48MP sensors, ultra-wide and telephoto cameras in the iPhones, which helps support higher image detail while working with features such as pixel binning and image processing.
One interesting fact has been circulating all over that 200MP cameras will be supplied by Samsung, despite being long-term rivals in the smartphone market. This is not an unusual thing but surely is interesting as Samsung already supplies several components to Apple.
