Apple iOS 16’s 6 cool features for iPhone that has gone unnoticed

Apple unveiled the new-generation of its mobile operating system, iOS 16 this week at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2022). The all-new iOS16 supports iPhone 8 and later iPhones. The new Apple iOS 16 has brought an array of new features including a brand new Lockscreen, enhancements to messages, revamped notifications, smarter Focus Mode, shared iCloud Photo Library, translation for text in photos, and lots more.

However, you may have not noticed some cool features. Let’s take a look at 6 of these interesting features:

‘Recently Deleted’ Messages will be stored in a folder

The iOS 16 has brought some updates for the Message app, including the ability to edit and unsend messages. What we did not know is that iOS 16 has also included a ‘Recently Deleted’ folder for deleted messages that preserves messages that have been deleted in the past 30 days.

With this, all the deleted messages will be moved to ‘Recently Deleted’ folder. But, the messages in the folder will be automatically cleared after 30 days. Within this time period, user can retrieve these message from the ‘Recently Deleted’ folder. This will work quite similar to the ‘Recently Deleted’ feature in the iPhone Photos app.

17 new hairstyles for Memoji

Apple iOs 16 has also brought new hairstyles, sticker poses, and more for the memojis  that was first introduced in 2017 with iPhone X. The new update for Memojis will offer more sticker poses, 17 new and updated hairstyles, more nose options when you customize your Memoji, more headwear and more neutral lip colors.

‘Always-on display’ for iPhones

Apple iPhones will now get the old Android feature ‘Always-on display’ with the iOS 16. As per reports, there are multiple references within iOS 16 that indicates support for an always-on display. It has reportedly got three new frameworks that have reportedly been added that relate to backlight management that is said to be a key part of enabling an ‘always-on’ display, of the iPhone’s display.

Built-in duplicate detection for Photos

Apple iOS16 has made some major updates for the photos app, including iCloud iCloud Shared Photo Library. The photos app can now also detect duplicates in your photo library. Starting with iOS 16, the built-in Photos app can detect both duplicate photos and videos. it will help users to save storage and time.

​Siri can now end FaceTime and phone calls

We already know Apple’s AI-based assistant Siri is able to initiate a phone and FaceTime calls. Now, iOS16 has made it possible for Siri to end these calls. Siri Call Hangup is reportedly turned off by default in iOS 16 beta 1, however, the feature works when enabled. To enable the Siri Call Hangup, follow the below steps:

  • Open Settings app.
  • Tap Siri & Search.
  • Tap Siri Call Hangup.
  • Set the toggle to On.

​Walkie-talkie capabilities for third-party apps

The iPhones will now get a “Push to Talk ” feature with the new OS update that will allow developers to add a walkie-talkie to their iOS apps. Apple iOS already allows audio apps to run in the background. However, they are limited to regular voice messages and audio calls. With the ‘Push to Talk’ API, iPhone users will be able to play/send/receive voice messages in real time even in the background.
