2022 MacBook Air: Expected features, specs and everything we know so far

Apple is expected to introduce a redesigned new MacBook Air in 2022. We have seen many rumours and reports about the 2022 MacBook Air after the launch of the new MacBook Pro last year. At first, analyst Ross Young and Ming-Chi Kuo speculated that Apple could add miniLED to this computer. But, now they believe that the company will provide an LCD panel on the new MacBook Air.

MagSafe connector, limited ports and more

Though Apple has given all the important ports to the 2021 MacBook Pro, the company may offer less ports with the 2022 MacBook Air. According to rumors, Apple will add two Thunderbolt ports for this machine, one on each side. Apart from this, the tech giant will likely pack a MagSafe connector as it was seen in the MacBook Pro. This will help the device to stand out.

M2 chip expected

The rumoured 2022 MacBook Air will likely be powered by the second-generation Mac processors (M2 chip) as Apple said it will no longer introduce another M1 chip. The M2 chip is rumored to be faster than the base M1 model, but will likely be less powerful than the M1 Pro, M1 Max, and M1 Ultra.

The M2 chip (internally known as “Staten”) is based on the A15 chip. Although it has an eight-core CPU just like M1, M2 will bring a more powerful 10-core GPU.

The new MacBook Air may get an improved FaceTime HD camera with 1080p resolution. In comparison, the 2020 MacBook Air still features an HD webcam. The battery will likely be as good as the first M1 model.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has suggested that it could be announced in the next couple of months.
