Bhadrak: A 24-year-old youth was allegedly strangled and beaten to death in Jalanga village under Bhadrak Rural police limits here in Odisha during New Year 2020 celebrations late last night .
The deceased has been identified as Sataybarata Siala of the village.
According to reports, a feast was organised in the village to celebrate the New Year, 2020 last night when a verbal spat erupted among some youths. Sataybarata was allegedly strangled and attacked with wooden plank by a group of youths.
Later, family members, with the help of villagers, rescued Sataybarata in a critical condition on the roadside of the village at around 3 AM today. He sustained severe injuries in his head, locals said.
Satybrata was immediately rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital here but the doctor declared him ‘brought dead’.
On being informed, police reached the spot and began investigation into the matter.
Meanwhile, police detained one Mantu Siala of the village as the prime accused in the death case.
A pall of gloom has descended upon the villagers after the sad demise of the youth on the New Year’s day.
