Youth hurt in attack while returning from election rally in Jajpur

Jajpur: With the election campaign gradually reaching the fever pitch in Odisha, political violence have come to light gradually and in a latest a youth was attacked by a group of men in Baruadi village under Jajpur police limits last night while returning from a poll rally.

The victim identified as Debakant Sandhi Bigraha of the same village was returning home after attending an election rally of a particular political party when the attack took place. He sustained critical injury and was rushed to Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for treatment.

In an FIR filed to Jajpur Police by Debakant later, he named one Adikand Sandhi Bigraha of the same village and alleged his hand in the attack. The accused was putting pressure on him to stay away from election for past few days and as he refused, the attack was carried out, Debakant added.

On the other hand, Asish Kumar Sahoo, IIC Jajpur Town Police Station informed that the matter is under investigation and the criminal antecedent of the accused is being verified to decide the next course of action by police.
