Jajpur: In a shocking incident, a youth was attacked and dragged by a crocodile while fishing in Odisha’s Jajpur district today.
One Soumyaranjan, son of Muralidhar Mallick of Kaharaganda village, had gone to Kharasrota river’s branch canal Chingudia canal along with his younger brother for fishing. However, Soumyaranjan was attacked and dragged into the deep water by a crocodile.
When Soumyaranjan’s younger brother raised an alarm, some locals rushed to the spot and carried out a search operation. However, after failing to trace him, they called the local firefighters.
Soon a team of Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force along with the police reached the spot and began to search for Soumyaranjan. However, till the filing of this report, they were yet to trace him.
Meanwhile, the residents of the area are in a state of fear following the mishap as they use the canal on regular basis.
On the other hand, Bari MLA Sunanda Das met Soumyaranjan’s family members and expressed her sympathy over the matter.
