Youth gang formed in jail to loot morning walkers busted, 9 arrested in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Tuesday arrested a gang of nine youths involved in several snatching and loot cases.

The arrested accused persons have been identified as Kasinath Patra of Srirama Nagar, Ganga Ready of Basti Bikash Parisad, Jitendra Pradhan of Ekamra Vihar, Sanjaya Kumar Das of Nilakanthanagar, Biswajit Das of Swadhin Nagar, Sumant Digal of Shakti Vihar, Kasinath Ready of Santoshi Nagar. The age of the youths ranged from 18 to 22.

All of them were arrested from Saliasahi. The city cops also seized 7 mobile phones, 3 choppers, 2 knives, 2 cutting blades, 2 packets of chilly powder, 4 iron rods and 2 razors.

Nayapali Police has filed a case in this regard under Section 399/402 of IPC. The accused will be forwarded to the court later today.

According to sources at police, the arrested persons had formed the gang after meeting each other in jail. They used to target senior citizens.

The looters used to barge into the elderly persons’ house or waylay them while they were out on morning walk and snatched their valuables by threatening them at gun point.

Each of them have criminal background as two or three cases have been registered against each.
