Youth Embezzles Rs 7.6 lakh To Gift Valuables To Lover

Kendrapara: A 24-year-old youth was today arrested by Nikirai police for allegedly concocting a false loot incident to embezzle Rs 7.66 lakh. Police said that the accused identified as Prakash Das utilized the money to buy valuables including gold ornaments for his girlfriend.

Police said that the accused working as a supervisor with a courier company had lodged a formal police complaint on June 4 alleging that the money was looted from the dickey of his scooty. Das had joined the courier company in February this year.    

“Das claimed that he had collected the money in the last week of May. He also claimed that the incident took place while he was on his way to deposit the money in a bank,” said a police official.

Police have registered a case and during the investigation, they interrogated the complainant thoroughly who confessed to the crime. Police said that preliminary investigation ruled out any loot.

Police have also seized cash of Rs 40000, gold ornaments, two mobile phones and other household articles. Police said that the accused had gifted the valuables by spending the ill-gotten money.
