Youth dies after consuming spurious liquor in Bhadrak, villagers block road

Bhadrak: Tension ran high in Basudevpur block of Bhadrak district yesterday as a youth died after allegedly consuming spurious liquor and locals blocked Dhamra-Jamujhadi road demanding liquor ban in the area.

As per the report, one Narayan Nayak of Parapokhari village had been to a liquour shop in the afternoon and consumed country liquor available there. After a few minutes of the consumption of the liquor, Narayan developed sickness and turned critical.

Though family members of the victim rushed him to Bhadrak District Headquarters (DHH) immediately, he succumbed there under treatment later.

Following the death of the victim, angry locals of the village resorted to a protest and demanded a complete ban on liquor in the village. They staged a blockade at Parapokhari Chhak on Dhamra-Jamujhadi Chhak for suitable compensation to the next of kin of the deceased.

The police and district administration had reached there and was trying to pacify the agitators till this report was being filed.
