Angul: With no respite in sight from mob violence in the state over child theft allegation, another youth sustained critical injury after being beaten up by angry locals on suspicion of being a child lifter in Lingaraj Munda Basti under Koliari Police Station area last night.
The incident took place at around 8 PM in the night after a group of unidentified men reached the slum in some work by boarding a Bolero. Suspecting them to be child lifters some locals first inquired about their identity and attacked them later after being dissatisfied over their answer.
While all others managed to escape from the spot in the same Bolero, one youth among them was nabbed by the locals. He was tied to a pole in the village and thrashed mercilessly by angry mob.
Koliari Police reached the spot later in the night and rescued him from the clutches of the attackers.
Police said, the held youth has been released as he was found to be mentally sick during interrogation.
