Dhenkanal: Tension ran high in Govindpur village under Dhenkanal Sadar police limits last night after a youth was brutally thrashed to death by a group of miscreants over past enmity.
The deceased has been identified as Pradeep Mallick.
As per some neighbours of the victim, a group of at least four bike-borne assailants arrived at his house late in the night while he was asleep and attacked him with a wooden plank. He bled profusely on the spot and died a few minutes later. The miscreants fled from the spot immediately after the incident.
Police reached the spot this morning after getting intimation and seized the body for autopsy.
While the exact motive of the assailants behind killing the victim is yet to be ascertained, police have detained his brother and sister-in-law on suspicion for questioning in the case.
