Youth Arrested By Delhi Police Flees In Balasore

Balasore: A youth, who was arrested by Delhi Police on a theft charge, escaped from custody on Saturday morning.

The accused has been identified as Karunakar Das of Raghunathpur village in Balasore district. He has been accused of stealing diamond and silver ornaments worth over Rs. 10 lakh from a businessman’s house in Delhi, where he was previously working.

Das fled police custody at Balasore Railway Station while he was being taken to Delhi this morning.

According to reports, Das was working as a domestic help in the house of a businessman named Ravindra Kumar Khari at Adarsh Nagar area in New Delhi.

Taking advantage of Khari’s absence, Das allegedly stole diamond and silver jewellery worth more than Rs. 10 lakh from the former’s residence on June 4. He fled after committing the crime.

Post the incident, the employer registered a complaint against Das at Adarsh Nagar Police Station. Based on the FIR, a three-member team of Delhi Police reached Odisha and with the help of Soro Police, arrested the accused on Friday.

During the interrogation, Das confessed to the crime and revealed that he had sold the stolen items in Cuttack. Meanwhile, a manhunt has been launched to nab him.
