18-year-old women Militia surrenders before Odisha policeKoraput: An 18-year-old Militia identified as Chitren Pangi of Marineda village under Chitrakonda police limits in Malkangiri district surrendered before the Koraput police on Friday.

Pangi had joined the outlawed group in May 2017 after being persuaded by Local Dalam Members and was the member of Gumma Area Committee of AOBSZC, operating in Chitraokonda and Machhkund area.

She decided to surrender, as she was frustrated with the anti-people attitude of the organisation and with their indiscriminate and unjustified violence against her own people.

The unwanted killing of civilians and dominance of Telugu and Chhattisgarh cadres over Odias have been attributed as the reasons behind her change of heart.

According to police, she was an active member of Sudhir’s group and was the member of Gana Natya Mandali. She was also trained as Team Doctor and has knowledge of different medicine.

Collection of ration from the villagers and collection information about the security forces in Gumma area was the main role of Pangi, police added.

The district police decided to enroll her in a school as she wants to complete her education and lead a normal life.
