Angul: In an unpleasant turn of a love affair, a young girl was held captive for hours by her lover inside a room for asking the latter for marriage in Balaramprasad of Angul district yesterday.
The accused identified as Chakradhar Mohapatra, a Class-IV employee at Bharat Nirman Rajiv Gandhi Seva Kendra was in a relationship with the victim for the past 10 years. However, he had started neglecting the girl with an intention to marry another girl.
Yesterday, the victim reached Chakradhar’s office and pressed him continuously to marry her which fumed him. In a fit of rage, the accused locked the girl inside a room on the office premise and took away her mobile phone.
Some local youths who were playing near the Bharat Nirman Rajiv Gandhi Seva Kendra heard the screaming of the victim and informed villagers by the evening. The girl was released from captivity by police, which rushed to the spot subsequently.
Police have lodged a case in connection with the incident and started an investigation.
