Yet another rare golden turtle rescued in Odisha

Kendrapara:  A rare golden turtle has been rescued near the banks of the Gahirmatha river under Mahakalapada block in Kendrapara district of Odisha.

Reportedly, the turtle was caught in the net while one Chandrakant Sethi of Ratanpur village was fishing in the river.

On getting the information, the Jambu Forest Department arrived at the scene and rescued the turtle, which was released into the river.

It is pertinent to mention that earlier in June, another rare yellow turtle was also rescued near the banks of the Baitarani river in Kasturikana village of the Orasahi block in Bhadrak district. It weighed around 2kg.

It is speculated that due to Cyclone Yaas many rare species must have entered the Kasturikana village and the rare yellow turtle must have come along.
