Yet another Omicron positive detected in Odisha, Tally rises to 9

Bhubaneswar: Yet another case of the Omicron variant of coronavirus have been detected in Odisha, taking the total number of infected to nine on Wednesday, informed the Director of Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar.

Reportedly, the patient who has been detected with Omicron variant of Covid today is 31-years-old. The patient is a resident of the Keonjhar district and has a travel history to United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The patient arrived at Kolkata from Dubai and later travelled to Keonjhar’s Barbil by train. Although a negative Covid report was carried while traveling, the patient suffered from fever a day after reaching his Barbil. Following this, the patient went for the RT-PCR test and was found positive for Covid-19.

The detection of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 has been reported to the State Health Department by the Institute of Life Sciences (ILS) in Bhubaneswar which is conducting the genome sequencing of the positive cases of coronavirus infection.

Till the last reports came in, the 31-years-old Omicron positive patient is undergoing treatment in hospital and is in a stable condition.

Earlier on December 26, four cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus were detected in the State. Prior to that two children, aged 11 and 15, were also found positive for the new variant, while on December 21, two youths tested positive for the new variant of Covid.

It is noteworthy that the first Omicron detected patient recovered at a private hospital in Cuttack and has been discharged.
