Rourkela: A three-month-old baby girl died after allegedly being administered a wrong vaccine at an Anganwadi centre in Malgodown area under Uditnagar police limits in Rourkela City of Sundergarh district on Wednesday.

According to reports, one Saraju Sahu and his wife had taken to their first child to the Anganwadi centre where the Anganwadi worker administered a DPT vaccine to the baby at around 11 AM yesterday. However, the baby died at around 8 PM.

Alleging that the child died as the Anganwadi worker administered her a wrong DPT vaccine, parents of the deceased baby lodged a complaint with police today.

Meanwhile, the Anganwadi worker is absconding.

Briefing about the incident, Rourkela DSP Pradyumna Kumar Mishra said, “The girl child was administered a DPT vaccine at around 11 AM by the Anganwadi worker, but the child died at 8 PM. The family members have filed a written complaint alleging that the child was administered a wrong injection.”

“We have started an investigation into the matter. Besides, kept a close vigil on the other children who were given the vaccine yesterday. They will be given immediate medical treatment if found sick,” he added.
